Soggy London and Last-Minute Culture

Getting up was HARD business for everyone. The littles took over the couch bed and the tweenager claimed his own room, little does he know he gets the couch in Edinburgh. After breakfast in the flat, we grabbed our umbrellas and headed out for more Underground time, navigating our way to the Southbank neighborhood. Sissy exclaimed "This is the longest escalator EVER" which was true until we got to the next station. We got off and it was pouring.    After a little turnaround in the navigating and we made it to Borough Market, an amazing food market undercover and more than 300 years old. We had passed through it in our October tour and I really wanted to go back on a Saturday to eat our way through it. Across the Pond

 First day + 1  The kids had been restless waiting for this day to get here, but I felt like a freight train was chasing me with all of my work and prep that needed to be done. I spoke at a Conference the morning of the day we left, raced home thankful to see the kids did the list of the "last minute chores" that I left them and we were tightly packed in our Uber an hour later. Sissy was mad I wouldn't let her wear her beloved jean skirt on the flight but I told her to trust me, it wouldn't be comfortable on a seven-hour overnight flight. Checking in and dropping bags was quick and easy (Thanks United!) and off to TSA pre-check, Dulles people movers, and the dreaded Siberia of Terminal D.  Got our last US dinner from & Pizza and boarded. I had all four kids in the middle row (a choice) and Chris had an aisle over.
